I am right on the same page with you, Amber! Learning must be authentic...but what if the curriculum is not? Your example of allowing students to have choice, is where we need to start. I feel as though I am in middle ground...I believe in ensuring each child is learning what they need to be learning in Grade ___, but I also believe that the NCLB Act has had a negative affect in our classrooms. How can we swim upstream? How can we change others thoughts about education (especially resistant parents)? I think the best answer is, one.step.at.a.time. As long as we are thinking about it and making change, we are making progress. And we need to remember that everything we do, is for the children.
